The island of Hvar has become a brand itself and is one of the most popular destinations amongst the Croatian Dalmatian islands. Thanks to its mild climate, the warm winters and pleasant summers Hvar receives thousands of guests annually who are attracted by the dense Mediterranean nature, rich traditions, architecture and nightlife.
Through the centuries, an oasis of culture has remained here, a testimony to the islands identity. Recently Hvar has celebrated 140 years of organised tourism, and today it is considered to be amongst one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world.
The most popular destination on the island is Hvar town, quoted as the ‘’St Tropez of the Adriatic” is attracting the affluent and celebrities from around the world to come and explore what it has to offer. A cosmopolitan town consisting of many restaurants and bars livens up by night and offers countless activities to do throughout the day as well as bathing by the crystal blue sea. Just off the coast of Hvar town is the famous Pakleni Islands for those who want to explore via boat. Each island offers a different vibe and are all certainly worth a visit.
The hotels in Hvar town run at 100% occupancy throughout the summer season. For those who prefer to relax in the company of their friends and family in privacy, a villa is definitely the best way to experience it.
The main tourist areas on Hvar are situated to the west of the Island. Other popular destinations which are within 20 minutes to Hvar town are Jelsa, Vrboska, Starigrad and Sveta Nedjelja. These offer a more authentic Dalmation experience and are your typical Croatian fishing towns, perfect for those who are looking to hide out during their stay.
Hvar is accessed via the two car ferries entering Starigrad and Sucuraj from the mainland of Split and Drvenik (taking 2 hours and 1 hour). Regular catamaran services from Split to Hvar Town takes one hour from Split. The new sea plane service from Split Old Town to Jelsa takes just 15 minutes.
